Children's fear of the dentist often stems not from a previous experience but from things they have heard from those around them. Even well-meant words such as "Don't be afraid, it won't hurt" can create a negative expectation about the procedure in the child's mind.
If possible, the first dental visit should be only for introduction and a check-up. The child getting used to the chair, seeing the environment and building a trusting relationship with the dentist makes future treatments easier.
In the pediatric dentistry approach, the goal is not only to treat the tooth but to ensure the child trusts the dentist. That is why calm, explanatory and age-appropriate communication is very important.
